The Nurse Clinician Skin & Wound:

  • Works as collaborative member of interprofessional team(s) to apply advanced and specialized 
    knowledge and clinical skills in the care and education of patients experiencing wound, ostomy & 
    continence issues.
  • Conducts advanced assessments of complex wound, ostomy and continence issues and develops plan of 
    care in collaboration with patient, family and interprofessional team
  • Uses advanced and specialized knowledge and clinical skills to deliver clinical education in Wound, 
    Ostomy and Continence to Joseph Brant Hospital staff, physicians and clinical learners.
  • Understands and demonstrates application of the Canadian Standards of Practice for Nurses Specialized 
    in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (3rd Edition 2021)
  • Supports the development of a culture of pressure injury prevention.
  • Is well versed in current best practices related to wound, ostomy and continence care
  • Provides hospital-wide clinical consultation in wound, ostomy and continence.
  • Teaches, counsels, troubleshoots and advises patients & families with wound, ostomy and continence 
    needs.
  • Coaches, mentors and acts as a role model to build staff competency (knowledge, skills, ability and 
    judgement) in wound, ostomy and continence care.
  • Participation in JBH committees and regional/community committees, as appropriate, in consultation 
    with the Program Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Baccalaureate level Nursing degree required
  • Current Registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
    required
  • Certification as a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Canada (NSWOCC) who has 
    graduated from a World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET) recognized education program 
    required
  • International Interprofessional Wound Care Course certification an asset
  • 7+ years’ recent and relevant experience working as an NSWOCC in an acute care hospital setting 
    required
  • 5 years’ recent and relevant experience working with Critical Care, Acute Medical, Surgical, Post-Acute 
    and Maternal Child (Neonatal Intensive Care) patient populations required.
  • Knowledge of full scope of treatment modalities for wound, ostomy and continence management and 
    preventative skin care techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex psychological needs of patients and families.
  • Ability to focus on corporate skin & wound programs by participating in activities that promote best 
    practice initiatives.
  • Experienced in advanced complex dressings and diabetes foot ulcer care.
  • Adult teaching experience and/or adult education courses
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of the interprofessional team.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality and availability.
