Position Summary:

The Communications Advisor leads the development and delivery of high-impact internal and external communications that support hospital-wide initiatives across a diverse portfolio of patient care services.
We’re looking for a creative and strategic communicator with exceptional writing, editing, and digital media skills. The successful candidate thrives in a collaborative, high-pressure healthcare environment, balancing multiple priorities with professionalism and agility. Their ability to build strong relationships and deliver results makes them a trusted advisor to internal leaders and external stakeholders.

Reporting Relationships:
The position reports to the Director, Corporate Communications.

- Develops and implements strategic communications plans that align with hospital priorities, including expansion of clinical programs, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement efforts
- Creates engaging, accessible content for digital, web, social, and print platforms, tailored to diverse audiences including staff, patients, families, and community stakeholders.
- Serves as a trusted communications advisor to hospital leadership, partners and clinical teams, translating complex information into clear, engaging messages.

- Creates marketing strategies (including messaging, visual identity and display/digital collateral) that promote the hospital, its people, programs and services, and corporate goals and objectives, both internal and external. Develops basic visual collateral to complement internal and external messaging.
- Champions JBH's brand and reputation, proactively identifying risks and recommending solutions to maintain public trust.

- Supports internal communications initiatives that promote engagement and enhance the employee experience.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of communications using analytics, feedback, and engagement metrics to inform future strategies and plans.

- Adapts quickly and shifts from standard work to support urgent priorities.
- Collaborates with colleagues and contributes to team success.
- Provides after-hours support when required.

- Post-secondary education in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in communications, ideally in a complex public sector or healthcare setting.
- Proven success in developing and executing strategic communication plans using both traditional and digital tools.
- Proven track record as a strategic communications partner, with experience managing multiple stakeholders and delivering measurable results.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with internal leaders, clinical teams, and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Experience in marketing and branding, including the development of campaigns that meet or exceed performance metrics.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Sound judgment and leadership in high-pressure situations, with the ability to assess risks and recommend effective solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams, SharePoint, and Copilot.
- Experience with content management systems, Google Analytics, and creative tools such as Canva to support content creation and performance tracking.
- A collaborative mindset and a positive, can-do attitude, with a willingness to support team members and contribute to shared goals.
- Commitment to excellence and a strong customer-service orientation.
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Experience supporting communications for clinical teams or patient care initiatives.
- Training or experience in change management
- Professional certification in communications (e.g. IABC, CPRS).
