Responsibilities: 
Duties will include, but will not be limited to:  

  • Carry out office functions as assigned by the Pathologists and Lab Manager, which includes Pathology Transcription: Surgical, Cytology and Autopsy reports
  • Transcribe gross dictation for Pathology Assistant(s), Histology Technologist(s) and Pathologist(s).
  • Send out all slides, blocks and reports physically and in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and/or Pathology Tracking system
  • Sorting and scanning laboratory reports and consults into the LIS
  • Participate in training and orientation of new staff
  • Support with document development and statistical reports as required
  • Assist and direct auxiliary staff as required
  • Support departmental scheduling and provide coverage of clerical duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Medical Transcription Certificate, plus a minimum of one year pathology experience mandatory
  • Exceptional editing and proofreading skills
  • Must possess excellent typing skills (minimum of 65 words per minute)
  • Experience transcribing College of American Pathologists Synoptic Reports
  • Preference will be given to candidates with hospital transcription experience.
  • Experience transcribing various dialects and accents
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Must be able to work independently in a busy environment with many distractions
  • Work collaboratively and effectively as a team
  • Proficiency with Lanier Dictation System, Meditech Client Server, Microsoft Office, Omnitech Document Control Program and computer applications an asset
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks and work independently is essential
  • Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality and performance required
  • Minimum two years of general office experience
